At Ronald Reagan Elementary School, our mission is simple: every child, every day, achieving academic success in a joyful and supportive environment. As Principal, it is my honor to serve a school community where students are known, valued, and inspired to grow. 

 

My name is Thomas Fletcher, and I have proudly served as Principal of Ronald Reagan Elementary School for 17 years, following three years as Vice Principal. Over the course of 39 years in education, I have had the privilege of working with students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. My career began in the fine arts—teaching K–12 General Music, serving as a High School Choral Director, and directing High School Theatre. I spent 17 years teaching in Iowa and two years in Yuma before moving into administration. 

I hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Phoenix. Outside of school, I serve as organist for Christ Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, continuing my lifelong love of music. 

 

A Foundation Built on Hard Work and Education 

I was born and raised in Nebraska, where summers were spent working for my uncles on their farms—doing field work and caring for dairy cattle and hogs. My father owned a fertilizer and farm service business, and from an early age I learned the value of responsibility, integrity, and perseverance. While attending college, I worked as a custodian to help pay for my education. I was the first in my family to graduate from college, and that accomplishment instilled in me a deep respect for education and the opportunities it provides. 

These experiences shaped my belief that hard work, character, and education open doors—and every child deserves that opportunity.

Academic achievement is important—but it is not enough. We intentionally develop character, leadership, and social-emotional skills through:

🏛️ The House System: Building Community 

All students from PreK–6th grade belong to one of five Houses, creating a smaller community within our larger school family. Each House represents a core character trait:

• Compassion 

 

The House System builds belonging, school pride, mentorship across grade levels, and positive relationships that help students feel safe, connected, and motivated.

Our 21st Century after-school and summer programs provide academic tutoring alongside enriching exploratory classes such as:

These programs ensure that learning continues beyond the school day in ways that are engaging, hands-on, and fun.
