Dear Crane Families,

On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, the Crane Governing Board voted to continue the required use of indoor face mask usage for students and staff for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year which ends on May 28, 2021. Students and staff members currently have the option to wear a face mask during outdoor activities. Our plan is to finish out the school year strong. We will update our Crane Mitigation Plan to make face masks optional while indoors beginning on June 1st following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other public health authorities. According to their prevention strategies, though face masks are not required, they are recommended for effective mitigation.

Face mask usage will be optional for students who are attending any of the Crane summer programs (Camp Crane, Band Camp, Extended School Year for ESS Students, 21st CCLC Summer Program, etc.). The Crane Mitigation Plan will remain in place for the continued safety of our staff and students during the summer programs.

The Crane Leadership Team will use the time during summer break to evaluate COVID-19 community transmission percentages and updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). We will inform you – our learning community – of our plan prior to the start of the 2021-2022 school year, and will supply you with an updated Crane Mitigation Plan that will build on the safety protocols that have been implemented to great success.

I’d like to thank our Crane families and staff members for your participation in the survey that we sent out to gauge insight into your experiences with your children at home and in the classroom. Your feedback was a valuable guide in helping us determine a course of action, and we appreciate your role as educational partners as we continue to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. Please know that every decision we’ve made has been reached after careful reflection and deliberation, and with our learning community’s health and safety as the main priority.

Per the governing board decision: All students, staff members, and district guests are required to wear face masks indoors on Crane campuses, facilities, and school buses through May 28, 2021. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Laurie Doering

Superintendent
